Winthrop University’s Literacy Intervention Team (LIT) mobilizes college students to serve as reading tutors, with the goal to alleviate illiteracy in the Rock Hill community.  Our trained university LIT members work with local first through fifth-grade students on literacy based activities such as one-on-one reading, group reading, and guided reading to improve basic reading skills.  Team members meet with children various times a week Monday through Friday, based on their class schedule and availability.

LIT tutors are needed from 8:00am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday.

If you are a current Winthrop student, work-study eligible and are interested in becoming a team member or if you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact Career & Civic Engagement at 803.323.2141. LIT members are needed between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. A minimum GPA of a 2.5 is required.
